FAQ :

1.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HI-LITE AND A DUAL CONTROL EXTENSION?

A Hi-lite is a light extension piece for a Cadac Lamp allowing you to increase the height of the light from the ground without having to place the cylinder on some sort of pedestal.

A Dual control extension arm allows one to operate two products (i.e. Cooker Top and Lamp) from one cylinder simultaneously, each product having separate control valves. Always place the heavier directly over the cylinder in order to prevent it falling over.

2.

WHERE DO I HAVE MY CYLINDER FILLED AND CHECKED?

Any authorised LP Gas dealer. Information can be obtained from the LPGSASA website. This is typically gas stations and bulk gas distributors.

3.

WHAT DO I DO WHEN THE PIEZO OF THE PRODUCT CEASES TO FUNCTION?

  • Check earth connection. If there is no earth connection there will not be any spark.
  • Check that the ceramic sleeve around the electrode is still intact and has no cracks, which would result in spark loss.
  • If there is no spark and the above points have been checked, the piezo is faulty.
  • Note. Although piezo may not function, the product can still be lit manually.
4.

WHY DOES MY PAELLA PAN NOT FIT ONTO MY SKOTTEL?

The Paella Pan was designed to fit the Handi Chef (“newer”) range. It will therefore not fit the Global (“older”) range of products.

5.

WHY DID MY SKOTTEL BURNER MELT?

Each product is designed to operate off a stem specially designed for the specific product.

Stems are not interchangeable. When incorrect stems are used, the air / gas ratio are wrong resulting in an incorrect flame. A melted burner is a result of too much gas, thus resulting in a hotter flame that normal.

6.

WHY DOES MY COOKER TOP BURN WITH A YELLOW FLAME?

Check that the Cylinder is not over filled. This will result in excess gas, which will burn with a yellow flame.

Check that the Jet is securely tightened. If not the gas will escape between the jet and the adaptor, through the tread, resulting to exec gas, which will burn with a yellow flame.

7.

WHY DO I EXPERIENCE FLAMING BETWEEN THE CYLINDER AND THE APPLIANCE?

Always ensure that the seal between the appliance and the cylinder is present and intact, i.e. not perished or torn. If that is not the case, gas will leak and in time result in flaming once a ignition source is in close proximity.

8.

WHY DOES MY LAMP GLASS FRACTURE?

Excess heat caused by a damaged mantle will increase the heat on one spot. This will result in rapid expansion, which could result in the glass fracturing.

Extreme temperature differences, especially in winter, could also result in rapid expansion, thus fracturing the glass.

9.

WHY DOES MY LAMP HOOD OVERHEAT OR MELT?

Excess heat caused by damaged mantle will result in a direct flame on the hood. This will overheat the hood resulting in over heat or melting of the hood.

Refer to the Operating Instructions for the Lamp for correct use.

10.

WHY DOES MY CYLINDER LEAK?

Normal “wear and tear” on the bleeder plug after numerous refilling results in the seating surface being damaged. This damage prevents it from sealing, thus a gas leak. This can also occur due to over tightening of the bleeder plug by gas fillers.

11.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CYLINDER IS OVERFILLED?

Weigh the cylinder after it has been filled. The total weight should not exceed the sum of the cylinder’s weight, as indicated on the foot ring of the cylinder, and the weight of the gas as allowed for each cylinder.

Example: A No. 7 Cylinder holds 7lb (3,18kg) of gas. Add this to the weight of the cylinder which is stamped on the foot ring. This should give you the total permissible weight. If the actual weight is more than the combined the cylinder has been overfilled and vice versa.
